Come Follow Me, A Podcast By Graham Thomas

The Graham Thomas Come Follow me Podcast is a spiritual Podcast. The intent is to teach spiritual principles using the vocabulary and ideas of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Spirituality differs from religion. Spirituality is focused upon the individual where religion speaks to the many. The LDS faith has always had a strong leaning towards spirituality, as its founder Joseph Smith saw God after a personal inquiry. Over time I believe this understanding, while still in plain sight of the members the church, is slowly being diminished and replaced by religion. It is my intention to remind us of our core beliefs, such as, God speaks to every one not just prophets and that there is much still to learn. My personal journey has been a little different. Although like many members, I served a mission, it divulged from the norm when I returned home. I became debilitating depressed and frustrated. While I continued to search for answers in the LDS cannon, upon asking, I was also led to find many other powerful teachers. These teachers opened my mind to powerful new avenues of thought. I have found that the new understandings I gained clarified the scriptures in a way I had never experienced. I realized I had only ever read them from a specific and mostly confused point of view. A point of view that I see many are still struggling with. Many who see the problems in our church leave. I however chose to stay. I believe that the church is made up of its members. There are many powerful doctrines and stories that augment truth here. To throw this out is, in my mind, wasteful and ineffective. I believe there are many in the church who have been blessed by its teachings, but I also believe that a different perspective could help some of us. It certainly helped me. The church is a platform that allows for growth, and although many among us would make it otherwise if given the chance, I believe the principles that guide us are correct enough to allow for further expansion. It may eventually be disposed of as we find better means of communicating in what we term as “the millennium” or the second Coming of Christ. For now, its humming along just fine, I’d even say, more successfully than most organizations out there. It is not flawless by any means, but it is the best we’ve got. I have wanted to do this for quite some time now. I was hesitant to begin, because I was unsure if the principles I have learned, could really help a people so steeped in tradition. I often speak with my father about religious principles. He is a very dedicated latter-day saint who often study’s his scriptures and seeks revelation. He and I discuss things he has learned through study, dreams, and direct revelation. I share principles that I have learned on my journey, and they seem to augment the things he is learning using the traditional LDS methodologies. This has increased my belief that the things I have learned, if spoken in our vocabulary, could benefit open minded individuals. Another issue I faced was a means or structure to deliver the information in. I was concerned if I did it by simply dumping out the information as I saw fit, it would be dismissed by the majority of members who are often quiet wary of anything that they haven’t been taught whilst growing up in the church. Recently I have a been hearing a lot about Come Follow me Podcasts. Come follow me is an at home spiritual manual that we are all working on together as families. Pretty cool right? Like I said there are a lot of good things happening within the church. I realized that the best way to disperse this information is on the terms of my listeners. Rather than try to create my own system, I will use the one we have. This plays well to our inherent keep the rules attitude. I intend to bridge the concepts of spirituality, as taught by the many spiritual giants among us, into LDS digestible chunks though my Podcast. I hope to inspire and lend clarity to the things that are a little muddled. As well as play my part as a member of an organization that asks me to be honest and courageous.

Christ did not come to save the things you think you are. He came to remind you who you really are. This is a fundamental shift that turns blind devotion into intentional looking. Christ didn’t come to save poor little Graham. Christ came to remind me I am so much more than little Graham.

I have a dream of one day walking through one of our temples with the holy men of Buddhism, and the yogis of India. Not as converts but as brothers in truth. All the humble followers of light and truth united under one banner. The banner of truth, of God. No more vying for followers, but instead rejoicing in our divine identities as brothers of Christ. brothers of truth. Brothers of light.

Imagine a Law that took you as you are. A law that Immediately put you in contact with higher Powers and thus gave you clarity and peace. A law where There are no prerequisites other than a desire to let go of your perspective and rest in Gods. And on top of that, your mind and body by the simple practice of this law, would be cleansed of any desire to do evil,  granting you a true unquestionable sense of godliness even if other people disagree with you actions.

Why do we fail? Why do we, as members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, consistently bat around the same basic principles over and over again with very little to no results? Why is Zion seemly stalled in its angelic progression? Why do are spiritual heights of our religion consist of finding out if the book of Mormon is true and listening to a Prophet?
In this episode We explore what is truly required to know God.
